Why not eclipses monthly?
Moon’s orbit tilted 6o from the ecliptic (model)
- Eclipses only occur when Moon very near ecliptic
- so shadows hit Moon or Earth (draw on board)
- origin of name ecliptic
- When Moon is at one of 2 “nodes” in orbit
- ascending node (going North)
- descending node (heading South)
- i.e. when “line of nodes” points at Sun (model - sun = t.ball)
- Eclipses only possible 2 times per year
- Eclipse seasons separated by approximately 6 months
